U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) is seeking a highly qualified Machinist (2nd or 3rd shift) to join our Maintenance department in Nashville, TN.

 

You will be responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of machining equipment to produce precision parts and components that support manufacturing operations. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

 

The starting wage for this position is $40.68 per hour.

 

Wha you will be doing:

  • Set up and operate manual and/or CNC machine tools (including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses) to manufacture or repair components
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, work orders, and specifications
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job
  • Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and grinding
  • Maintain tight tolerance and dimensional accuracy
  • Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges)
  • Verify finished parts meet specifications and quality standards
  • Document measurements, inspections, and deviations as required
  • Identify and correct machining errors or defects
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and tooling
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to ensure consistent output
  • Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly
  • Assist with continuous improvement of machining processes and setups
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and plant policies
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area (5S standards)
  • Comply with quality systems, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines
  • Work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams
  • Support urgent repair or fabrication needs to minimize downtime
  • Train or assist machinists as needed

 

What we want you to have:

  • Must possess three (3) or more years of experience as a Machinist in a manufacturing/industrial maintenance environment or have equivalent verifiable military or technical school experience, high speed production/packaging environment preferred
  • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship, technical program, or equivalent on‑the‑job experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings, and a strong understanding of machining principles, materials, and tolerances
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctions in industrial machines
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
  • Available to work on any shift, and must be willing to work overtime, weekends and holidays
