We are currently looking for a Manager, Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting to join our Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting team in Richmond, VA but are open to a remote work arrangement.

 

This role serves as a technical subject matter expert supporting enterprise initiatives, resolving complex accounting matters, advising senior leadership and ensuring high-quality SEC reporting. The ideal candidate brings experience from public accounting and is looking to apply technical depth and professional judgment to enterprise‑level accounting and SEC reporting matters. The role partners with senior leaders, finance teams, internal partners and external auditors. This role is an individual contributor position with no direct reports, requiring leadership through technical expertise, influence, and review of junior staff work.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Serving as a technical advisor and providing accounting guidance and interpretations and strategic support to finance and business partners across the enterprise for complex transactions, providing clear, well supported recommendations to senior management.
  • Preparing high quality technical accounting memoranda supporting management conclusions, and ensuring consistent application of accounting policies.
  • Reviewing and providing guidance on periodic SEC filings (Form 10‑K, 10‑Q, 8‑K, etc.) prepared by team members, ensuring compliance with disclosure controls and procedures.
  • Partnering closely with internal partners and external auditors on assigned technical accounting and reporting matters and to coordinate assigned SEC filings and related disclosures.
  • Monitoring SEC rule-making, comment letter trends, and peer disclosures to support and continuously enhance accurate, compliant, and high‑quality external reporting.
  • Monitoring new accounting standards, assess impacts, and advise on adoption and implementation across the organization.
  • Supporting strong internal controls and governance, including SOX coordination, and driving continuous improvement and scalability of technical accounting and external reporting processes.

 

We want you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA (Certified Public Accountant) required.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in public accounting.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing SEC filings (Form 10‑K, 10‑Q) and researching, documenting, and supporting complex accounting positions.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and technical accounting, with the ability to research, analyze, apply professional judgment to complex or ambiguous issues and assess disclosure implications of business activities and transactions.
  • Proven ability to clearly document accounting conclusions, including drafting technical memoranda, and communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability in collaborating with external auditors and internal partners and lead others by reviewing work, giving feedback, and supporting junior staff growth.
  • Strong project management, prioritization, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting systems and SEC reporting tools (e.g., Workiva, Oracle FCCS) is a plus.

 

 

 

 

 

The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $119,600.00 - $173,450.00.
