We are currently seeking a Director, Safety, Health and Environmental to join our organization in Richmond, VA.
The Director, Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) provides enterprise-level leadership for safety, occupational health, and environmental strategy across a complex manufacturing organization. This role is accountable for regulatory compliance, governance, and management system effectiveness while proactively identifying risk and anticipating emerging issues. The Director partners closely with senior leaders and operations to translate technical and regulatory requirements into practical, risk-based solutions that drive performance and assure compliance. Through strategic leadership and team development, this role delivers measurable outcomes that protect people, the environment, and business. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for engagements and relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, oversight of our medical facilities, and workers’ compensation support.
What you will be doing:
- Provide Enterprise-wide leadership for safety, health, and environmental strategy and execution aligned to evolving business needs.
- Develop and execute SH&E strategic plans that anticipate regulatory, operational, and business change.
- Lead Safety workstream aligned to manufacturing’s Integrated Work Systems (IWS) and embed SH&E into business planning and execution.
- Serve as the primary interface with regulators and industry organizations, managing inspections, audits, and ongoing communications to ensure compliance and foster positive relationships. Develop staff to ensure team members possess strong external engagement skills and are proficient in inspection and audit procedures.
- Ensure effective SH&E governance, including policies, standards, management systems, and regulatory reporting.
- Identify, assess, and prioritize SH&E risks, proactively addressing emerging issues.
- Lead, coach, and develop a diverse, high-performing SH&E organization while managing competing priorities.
We want you to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in safety, health, and environmental or similar roles within complex operating environments.
- 5 years of SH&E leadership experience in manufacturing environments preferred.
- Experience with local, state, and federal agency engagements.
- Demonstrated corporate-level strategic leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to turn data into insights.
- Ability to translate technical and regulatory requirements.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or PE preferred.

The starting salary is based on but not limited to experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions. The Salary Range for this position is: $139,100.00 - $243,500.00.
